Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES-VR)

Services are offered to people with disability impeding their ability to work:
• Workplace Readiness Training (to develop social skills and independent living)
• Job Exploration Counseling
• Work-Based Learning Experiences
• Post-Secondary Options Counseling
• Income and SSDI-based financial assistance in transportation, reasonable accommodation, and other expenses

Referrals, peer support, and independent living Reimbursement for career advancement training, reasonable accommodation (contact [email protected]), and transportation (offered based on your income, might require you to have a Social Security Disability Insurance available to certain low-income people with disability that posses an eligible immigration status) Job development for those whose disability impedes seeking employment (you must be legally allowed to work in the US) Applications for public benefits (immigration status and income requirements apply) Help is offered to NYC residents with physical and mental challenges. People with a criminal record of sexual violence are not served.

Call your local ACCES-VR office by finding it on acces.nysed.gov/vr/district-offices so they can email you an application and list of medical forms and other documents you need to mail back to prove your eligibility (based on your disability). Based on your income and eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you can qualify for additional services for free; immigration status requirements might apply. Email, mail, or come in person to start the process by filling out VR-26 - Confidential Health Assessment and VR-04 forms.
